Grand Sport echoes from the formative days of the 1960s when Corvette was cutting its teeth in brutal endurance races such as Les 24 Heures du Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring. Those learnings applied, today's Grand Sport convertible offers an incredible combination of performance and efficiency with 0 to 60 mph in 3.95 seconds, 1g on the skidpad and 26 MPG highway(4), plus pure open-air exhilaration that only a convertible can offer.
The signature driver of Corvette Racing, Ron Fellows, walks us through what's unique about the Grand Sport coupe. Then he runs us on one fast ride around the desert road course at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch near Las Vegas.
The unmistakable look of Grand Sport convertible is attributed to its wider track accentuated with fender flares and a wider front fascia and front splitter. A higher rear spoiler and special five-spoke wheels with Goodyear® Eagle® F1 Supercar tires further underline its purposeful look. A manual top is standard or order an available power top that lets you lower the roof in 18 seconds.
Magnetic Selective Ride Control, newly available on Grand Sport models, stiffens suspension capability for twisty roads while providing a more compliant ride for city driving and freeways. Here's how it works. An electromagnetic coil resides inside each damper piston. When an electrical current is applied - variably controlled by a microprocessor - ferrous particles in the shock fluid instantly bond, making the fluid more flow resistant, effectively stiffening the shock's damping.
Conversely, when the electromagnetic field is reduced, the fluid flows more freely, allowing easier suspension movement. There are two cockpit settings: "Tour" and "Sport." Grand Sport models equipped with MSRC and a manual transmission include new, second-generation Goodyear® Eagle® F1 Supercar tires.

For those who like to compete in club-sanctioned closed-course track events, launch control is standard with the short-throw six-speed manual gearbox. It modulates engine rpm to lay the power down more smoothly while providing consistent acceleration times on the test track.
The available Head-Up Display projects information in two modes right onto your windshield. Track mode offers speed, rpm and even g-forces. Street mode offers directions from the available navigation system and more.
XM Radio(8) with three trial months is standard. Enjoy commercial-free music, sports, news and talk, comedy, family programming and more from coast-to-coast.
Corvette offers available CD/MP3 Bose seven-speaker sound systems - with and without navigation. Both feature auto tone control, Radio Data System (RDS)(9), automatic volume and TheftLock. Both include a one-year XM Radio(8) trial.
